GO-EUREKA at EGU 2026: Introducing Our Platform to the Geosciences Community

May 21, 2026

We are excited to share that GO-EUREKA was officially introduced to the international geosciences community at the European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly 2026 in Vienna, Austria!

Our team members made an impact during Session NH5.1 (Tsunamis: observation, modeling, and hazard assessment), highlighting how (near) real-time GNSS technology can revolutionize early warning systems globally.

🌐 Introducing GO-EUREKA to the World

Elvira Astafyeva delivered an oral presentation titled:
👉 “GO-EUREKA: GNSS-observation based European system for earthquake and tsunami risk assessment in near-real-time” (Abstract EGU26-11775)

During her talk, Elvira officially shared the go-eureka.eu website with the scientific community for the first time. She introduced the core concepts behind our initiative, demonstrating how integrated GNSS-observation workflows can enhance near-real-time risk assessments for earthquakes and tsunamis across Europe. The reception from the community was encouraging, sparking interest in our future collaborative tools and platform development.

🌊 Additional Team Members

We are also incredibly proud to highlight the work of GO-EUREKA team member Michela Ravanelli, who took the stage in the same session to present her parallel research on early warning:
👉 “The GNSS enhanced Tsunami Early Warning System (GeTEWS) Oceania Initiative” (Abstract EGU26-10392)

Michela’s presentation focused on strengthening tsunami monitoring and early warning capabilities across the highly vulnerable Pacific Ring of Fire using real-time GNSS networks. Having our team members drive these crucial international safety initiatives underscores the deep expertise fueling GO-EUREKA.

Moving Forward

The EGU 2026 General Assembly provided the great launchpad for the GO-EUREKA network. We want to extend a big thank you to everyone who attended the sessions, asked questions, and connected with our network.

Stay tuned as we continue to roll out updates, upload new tools, and work toward a safer, data-driven future for natural hazard mitigation!
